First Trout of the Trip

We attempted to cast to Golden Dorado in the dark water at Los Ombues Lodge in Entre Rios province.

We threw streamers into a windy tail water creek in La Rioja province.

We’ve passed many a dark water river flushing with spring runoff.

We’ve zoomed passed several beautiful Clearwater streams in Patagonia rushing our way south.

We finally caught a trout in the beautiful Rio Tecka.

Rio Tecka is a spring creek winding mostly through the estancia Tecka.   After our morning of witnessing the sheep shearing, we moved out into the Estancia a couple kilometers to make camp and try our hand at fishing. The wind was raging, and we set up a 9 foot five weight Helios 3 rod and a 7 1/2 foot fiberglass 4 weight.  We tied on a floating beetle and the grasshopper looking pattern. We tied on a floating beetle on the H3 and a nymph on the glass rod

Poor Lynnette, using the H3, lost her fly on the first back cast. The fiberglass four weight was a disaster in the strong wind. Lynnette took a break from casting to hand me the Helios.  A couple cast into an eddy and a small rainbow struck.. Of course, we had to document him with a photo.

After releasing the rainbow or host, Pedro came out in his truck to see how we were doing. He had been riding motorcycles with his cousins and friends the entire day. I lamented how the fiberglass rod was useless and he looked at our tiny flies and chuckled. Looking into our fly boxes he selected a gigantic white crested fly

Pedro told us to skate the fly and twitch it on the surface. Browns began almost immediately to attack it. It seems the harder we skated it the more they liked it.

My advice: always hire a guide, and always listen to your guide
